Covered calls are an effective strategy to generate portfolio income. Choosing the right stock for covered calls is a crucial aspect of your long-term investment success.
Generate Income and Reduce Risk
An Investor’s Guide to Find the Right Stock for Covered Calls
Selling covered calls is a pretty straightforward strategy. But one of the biggest questions most investors have is, “How do you choose the right stock for covered calls?” Of course, the answer is not a one-size-fits-all response. It ultimately depends on your goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon.
Our free Stock Selection 101 course reveals the screening process and criterion Snider Advisors uses to find stocks to meet our long-term objective goal of generating consistent monthly income while hedging some of the risks that are inherent to stock ownership.
Course Overview
Stock Selection Success
A smart investor’s guide to finding the right stocks for your investment portfolio.
In the Snider Investment Method, we view stocks as a long-term investment. We believe the primary purpose of owning a stock is to use it to generate portfolio income. We also believe that it is impossible to consistently time the market with any success. So, we never choose stocks because there is a view that they will likely go up (or down) in price. Instead, we screen for financially healthy stocks that have the greatest potential to meet our objective of generating income through selling covered calls.
The Snider Method has a specific risk/reward profile, so in many ways, selecting appropriate positions is a balancing act based on cost-benefit analysis. Our stock screening tool excludes stocks that don’t fit within a specific framework. However, as the number of excluded stocks increases, the opportunity for higher option premiums decreases. We continually focus on the balance of safety and income.
Managing risk is essential, but it involves a trade-off of potential profit. Take our free Stock Selection 101 educational course to learn the fundamentals of proper stock selection techniques.

Unlike most advisors, we don’t manage money behind closed doors – instead, clients appreciate the transparency and education we provide, making them highly informed and confident investors. As a matter of fact, we use the same method to manage client assets that we teach clients to use to successfully manage their portfolios.
